The Acrees of this area are descended from William Acree who came from Virginia to Bettie Co., N.C., then to Wilkes Co., Ga. soon after the Revolutionary War. As a soldier in the Revolution, he received large tracts of land in Franklin Co., Ga.

1-1 William Acree d. April 1796 Wilkes Co., Ga. His children were: 2-1 Elizabeth; 2-2 Jenea; 2-3 Susannah; 2-4 Sara; 2-5 Frances; 2-6 Nancy; 2-7 Priscilla; 2-8 William Jr.; 2-9 Sherrin; 2-10 John A.; 2-11 Wylie Acree.

2-11 Wylie Acree m. Anna Morris daughter of William Morris of Wllkes Co. GA. One of their sons was:

3-1 Allen Acree d. July 7, 1877 Banks Co., Ga. m. Drucia Whitfield and had five children: 4-1 William; 4-2 James; 4-3 Vinie; 4-4 Arminda; 4-5 Wylie.

4-1 William Acree b. Dec. 15, 1826 Banks Col, Ga. d. Aug 20, 1907 Stephens Co., Ga. m. Mary C. Martin daughter of James and Catherine Wheeler Martin. (See Martin Family History) William Acree was one of the founders of Tates Creek Church. The children of Wm. and Mary Acree were: 5-1 James Knox; 5-2 Allen A. [and others]

5-1 James Knox Acree b. Jan. 12, 1853 Banks Co., Ga. d. May 16, 1923 Stephens Co., Ga. m. Nancy Catherine Banks b. Jan 7, 1860 Habersham Co., Ga. d. April 29, 1919 Stephens Co., Ga. daughter of Russell and Mary Yarbrough Banks. James Knox Acree came to Habersham Co. (now Stephens) from Banks Co. in 1877. he became a prominent farmer and a leader in all community activities. When Stephens County was formed in 1906. he was one of the first members of the County Board of Education and also was a members of the county's firs Democratic Committee. he was a loyal member of Tate's Creek Baptist Church and was a Deacon and Supt. of the Sunday School. The children of James K. and Nancy Acree were: 6-1 James R.; 6-2 William Thomas; 6-3 Mary Catherine; 6-4 George Allen; 6-5 Young Davis; 6-6 Ada Augusta; 6-7 Sally Evelyn; 6-8 Henry Lumpkin; 6-9 Retha Jane; 6-10 Hershel Cobb; 6-11 Gladys.
