William Harvey Chapin, 87, died last night in Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado where he had been a patient for 2 weeks. Services will be held Saturday at 2 pm in the Dunsford Chapel with Reverend B. B. Hinkson in charge. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetary.
With Mrs. Chapin, he came to Augusta in 1934 from Westphalia. He was a retired lumberman. Mr. Chapin was a fine amateur gardener and derived a great deal of pleasure gardening and visiting with members of his family.
Mr. Chapin was born February 8, 1862 in Oak Hill, Wisc., the son of Harvey and Sarah Ann Chapin. On September 9, 1895, he was married to Evelyn Neetta Reeder in Oberlin. She survives as do the following children-Mrs. H. H. Robinson and Edna Chapin of Augusta; Ralph H. Chapin of Tulsa, Okla.; Ray Chapin of Kansas City, Mo. There are two sisters, Mrs. George McDowell of Oberlin and Mrs. Andrew Simpson of Fairbury, Nebraska; also five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was a member of the Baptist church.
