Sherman Ellsworth Harper, son of Elisha and Margaret Harper, was born in Shelby county, IL, September 19, 1885. When he was eighteen years old he moved with his parents to a farm south of Calhoun, IL. He lived the rest of his life in this community. He was united in marriage with Metta Nicholas October 20, 1906. To this union were born two sons, Eugene and Kenneth, both still at home. Member of the M. E. Church. He had been ill for several years and was bedfast for four months, passing away at the Illinois Central hospital, Chicago, IL, on April 26, 1927:aged 41 years. Besides his wife he is survived by aged parents, and six brothers and sisters; Mrs. Mary Wall, Mattoon; Mrs. Flora Atterberry, Olney; Enoch Harper, Mattoon, Clarence Harper, Louisville; Mrs. Martha McWilliams, Mattoon; Gloyd Harper, Olney.
