Gordon Lee Chapman, 73, of 583 Old Jesup Road, died Monday at the Glynn-Brunswick Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

He was a native of Wayne County and had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 45 years. He was a member of Glyndale Baptist Church, Fishers of Men Sunday School Class and had served as deacon and usher of the church. He was a member of the Golden Isles Lodge 214 F & A M.

He is survived by his wife, Irene H. Chapman, Brunswick; three sons, A.J. Chapman, Billy Chapman and Sheldon Chapman, all of Brunswick, two daughters, Shirley Goodbread of Brunswick, and Nadine Lewis of Darien; two step-daughters, Ovelyn Morgan of Brunswick, and Faye Batten, Winnsboro, S.C., a brother, Wyburn Chapman, Wayross, a sister, Edna Drawdy of St. Marys, 20 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Glyndale Baptist Church with the Rev. Otis T. Hooks and the Rev. O'Neil Sharpe officiating. Interment will follow in the Arnett Chapman Cemetery on the Post Road.

Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Chapman, Lee Chapman, Mike Chapman, Kip Goodbread, Kevin Batten and Alan Battan.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and members of the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class of the Glyndale Baptist Church, Lacey Smith, Alien Drawdy, Dr. William Laws, and Dr. W.O. Inman.

The family will receive friends at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home from 7 to 9 o'clock tonight.
