One theory:

She is the Betsey Keyes, born on Apr 12,1801 to Orin Keyes and Lois (Seagrave) Keyes, who married, first, at Uxbridge,MA on Jan 1,1821, John Aldrich Jr of Northbridge,MA. He was born about 1798, a son of John Aldrich (1760-1838) and his first wife, Elizabeth (Brown) Aldrich (1765-1806). Several online sources indicate John Aldrich Jr died in 1858....but her [second] husband, Luther Adams, appears to have died in 1847.

This non-sequitur regarding her husbands' death dates, and their sequence, suggests, instead, that she may have been a sister of Luther Adams, rather than his wife, and he is buried here simply because his sister was attached to the Aldrich family and he was living with them. This is supported by the presence in the family (and on the same stone) of Harriet N Adams, who may also have been a sister of Luther [and Betsey]. This is supported by the fact that Harriet is found in the 1880 census in the household of Edgar Robinson and his wife Joanna (Aldrich) Robinson, and Harriet is listed in that census as an aunt. However, Betsey is listed as "Aldrich" in 1860 census records, not Adams.

I tend to favor the first theory, and have linked accordingly. I believe it is likely that John Aldrich Jr died by 1839, not in 1858. If anyone can clear this family up, your input is welcome!

She is found in the 1850 census in Smithfield,RI as Betsey Adams, head of family. Among the family members are several of the people named on the same stone, including four children.
