Professional Football Player. For seven seasons (1954 to 1957, 1960 to 1962), he played at the quarterback position in the National and American Football Leagues with the Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Titans and Buffalo Bills. In addition, he played a few seasons in the Canadian Football League. Born Albert Richard Dorow, Jr., he attended Imlay City High School (Michigan) and played collegiate football at Michigan State University. He helped lead the Spartans to a National Championship Title in 1952, while achieving All-American recognition. He was selected by Washington during the 3rd round of the 1952 NFL Draft and appeared in 69 career NFL and AFL game, passing for 7,708 yards with 64 touchdowns, achieving Pro Bowl status two-times (1956 and 1961). In 1960, Dorow became the first starting quarterback in the history of the New York Titans franchise (later New York Jets) in the newly-formed American Football League. During that season, he led the league with 26 passing touchdowns and achieved All-Pro status. Following his playing career, Dorow returned to Michigan State and served as an assistant coach. He also coached the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League in 1971. He died from cancer.
