William Eppley, a well known farmer, residing near Shepherdstown in the lower end of the county, died Wednesday morning about seven thirty o'clock of dropsy, aged about 80 years. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children, Elmer, Charles, John, Mrs. Jacob Hertzler, Mrs. William Staub, and Miss Minnie Eppley. He was a brother of the late ex-County Commissioner Samuel Eppley, and an uncle of the present county commissioner, Samuel Eppley, of Carlisle. His funeral was held this afternoon, interment at St. John's church (sic), opposite Shiremanstown.

William Eppley, for many years one of the best gnown (sic) and most highly esteemed residents of Cumberland county (sic), died at 7.30 o'clock on Wednesday morning at his home in Upper Allen township near Mechanicsburg. The deceased was about 81 years of age, a member of the St. John's Lutheran church (sic) at Shiremanstown, and a very highly esteemed gentleman. For many years he resided in East Pennsboro township, and while there filled all the township offices with the best of satisfaction. From East Pennsboro he moved to Upper Allen, where he resided until death.

In politics he was a staunch Republican, and took an active interest in the local elections. He was a gentleman of exemplary character and at a rip old age he has fallen asleep, leaving behind an honored memory.

Surviving him are his wife, Agnes and these children, John L., assistant postmaster of Mechanicsburg; William E., Charles S., Susan, wife of William Staub, and Irene, wife of J.R. Hertzler, all of Upper Allen. County Commissioner S.L. Eppley, this place, is a nephew.

The funeral was held this, Friday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock. Among those who attended were Judge Sadler, and County Commissioner Eppley, of Carlisle.
