OBITUARY.
DIED-In Cicero, Ind., on the morning of the 12th inst., MRS. REBECCA LAKE, aged 76 years, 6 months and 4 days.
Mother Lake was born in South Carolina, January 17, 1797, and emigrated to Indiana with her parents in 1804 [the obit neglects to mention that they went first to Hamilton Co, OH, in 1801], and was married to a Mr. Newgent [his actual name was William Nugent], in Franklin county, Ind., in 1818; with her husband she removed to Marion county, Ind., in 1825. Her husband died in 1826, leaving her a widow with three small children. In 1829 [the correct date was 1828] she was married to MR. E. W. LAKE; removed from Marion county to Carroll county, Ind., in 1834, and to Putnam county Ind., in 1839, and to Hamilton county in 1854 where she resided till her death.
Soon after moving to Putnam county she made a profession of religion and united with the C. P. Church, and continued a faithful member of the same until she removed to Hamilton county where she united with the English Lutheran Church, in Cicero, Ind, in which she continued a faithful and consistent member until the end of her life. In her last sickness her sufferings were great, yet she was patient and resigned and her only desire was to depart this life and be with Christ. At last, on the morning of the 12th inst., the curtain dropped, the scene closed, and her pure blood-washed spirit winged its flight to that land where the weary sigh no more. But few have lived longer, few here passed through greater changes or endured greater hardships in pioneer life than Mother Lake, and none were happier or more blessed in all the relations of life. She leaves an aged sorrowing husband and six children to mourn, but their loss is her gain. The funeral services were held at the English Lutheran Church on Sabbath morning, at 10 ½ o'clock.
