Irvin Dean Anderson, 75, passed away November 29, 2009 at his home in Central Valley after a valiant struggle with lingering illnesses. He was born June 23, 1934 in Emery, Utah to Alfred M and Mable Jacobsen Anderson. He married Chiquita Nan Blackburn, December 19, 1954 in Sunnyside, Utah. The marriage was solemnized January 17, 1959 in the Manti LDS Temple.
Dean served during the Korean Conflict in the Navy for four years and in the reserves for an additional four. He was a hospital administrator in Afton, WY and Rangley, CO. He also worked as a x-ray technician in both the Gunnison Valley and Sevier Valley Hospitals.
He was a volunteer teacher/mentor at Gunnison Valley High School, assisting the senior boys with graduation requirements. He was a member of the Gunnison American Legion, the Star Valley and the Rio Blanco Chariot Racing Associations, the Afton Lion's Club and was the first Sevier County Honorary Cowboy. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, leather and wood working.
He is survived by his wife, Nan, of Central Valley; children Kelly Dean
(Coreen) Anderson and Kevin B. (Lisa) Anderson, both of Annabella; Karen A. (Layne) Brown of Central Valley; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, plus two on the way; sisters, Renee Cupples, Roma
(John) Cooper, both of East Carbon City, Oreen Sawyer of Evanston, WY.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Faye and LaRue; brothers, Merl, Roy and Clair; great-grandson, Bray Jade Anderson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.
in the Central LDS Ward Chapel in Annabella, Utah. Friends and family may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 and at the ward chapel in Annabella on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Gunnison City Cemetery.
