William James Martin Thornton, 63, of 424 South Thomas Street, Gilman , Illinois, died at 2:30 p.m., Monday, February 27, 1956, at work in the Western Dress Company Plant. Mr. Thornton had been ill health the past 10 years.
He was born March 23, 1892, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the son of Robert and Lucy {Binsted} Thornton. He was married in Canada, on August 8, 1916, to the Former Elsie Mowat. He was a Dress Cuter by trade all his life. He came to Chicago, Illinois from Canada in 1928, and to Gilman, Illinois in 1938. He was a member of the Gilman Masonic Lodge and at one time a member of the 48th Highlanders of Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 sisters, Eva, Eva, Violet, Mrs. Bertha Godfrey and Mrs. Mabel McDougall, all of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Surviving are his widow, sons Leslie, of Gilman, Illinois and Kenneth and his wife Wilma Thornton, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a sister Ethel Chandler, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
