Reverend Chesley Furmon Sowell was born Saturday, April 6, 1878 in Shiloh, Hardin County, Tennessee, to William R. Sowell and Josephine Roseanna "Josie" Poindexter Sowell. ~ He married Mary Jane Wilks, a daughter of John Wilks and Mandy Harp Wilks. ~ Chesly F. Sowell

Chesly Furmon Sowell, 85, 912 3rd Ave. SE, died Sunday at 1 a.m. in a local rest home.

Funeral services will be today at 3 p.m. from the Fifth Ave. Baptist Church, with the Rev. W. W. Coffey officiating.

Interment will be at Johnsons Chapel with Guntharp Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include three sons, Clebert Sowell, Coy Sowell, Roy Sowell, all of Decatur; two daughters, Mrs. Jimmy Clarke, Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. C. C. Harp, Decatur; six grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

The body will remain at the residence until time to be taken to the church for services.
