BRECKINRIDGE HERALD NEWS OBITUARY – 1929
Charles Mattingly, another pioneer of the county, died from the infirmities of age at his late home in Hardinsburg, at an early hour Tuesday morning. Mr. Mattingly had been almost an invalid for the past year. He was well known throughout the county, and at the time of his death was in his eighty-ninth year. Mr. Mattingly was first married to Miss Laura McGary and to this union several children were born, but only two survive. They are Hilary Mattingly of Decatur, Ill., and Mrs. Lula Pulliam of Covington. He was later married to Miss Mollie Blenn, who is also a survivor. Miss Mary Jo Mattingly of this city and Mrs. I.H. Becker of Tell City, Ind. are grandchildren of Mr. Mattingly. There are three other surviving grandchildren. The funeral was conducted at the St. Romuald Catholic Church on Thursday morning by the pastor, the Rev. Martin Rosengarten, and the burial held in the St. Romuald Cemetery. Military record: 3rd KY Cav. Co. K Cpl Enlisted 9/13/1861, and was discharged on 1/23/1865.
