Claude Swanson Horton, (Shoe Shine), 78, of Hillsville, passed away Friday, January 9, 1998, at Blue Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center, Galax. Surviving are his wife, Ossie E. Horton; one son & daughter-in-law, Freddie & Marie Horton, Hillsville; one daughter, Mary A. Horton, Kernersville, NC, one brother, Rev. Elton Horton, Galax; three sisters, Lila & Eldon Webb, Norfolk, Lorene Horton, Winston-Salem, NC, Oleta & Rev. Paul Jones, Hillsville.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 1998, at Skyview Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Skyview-Webb Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, January 10, at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel. The body will lie in state 30 minutes preceding the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Skyview Baptist Church Building Fund, Route 1, Fancy Gap, Va.
