OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Jan 6 1999 "Obituaries: Curtis Aberly"
STAMBAUGH-Curtis G. Aberly, 86, died Dec. 30 at his home.
He was born Jan. 25, 1912 in Crystal Falls, the son of the late George and Jenny (Dobenspec) Aberly. He attended the Crystal Falls schools and then moved to Milwaukee where he lived for a short time. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during World War II in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theatres. On Sept. 16, 1944 he married the former Catherine Poulos, and following his honorable discharge from the service, the couple made their home in Iron River. They purchased the former Puritan Dry Cleaners in Stambaugh in 1948 and then the Rainbow Dry Cleaners in Iron River in 1958. The couple owned and operated the dry cleaning business until retiring in 1970. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River and had been a member of the former Blessed Sacrament Church in Stambaugh where he had served on the church board. He was also a member of the Reino Post No. 21 of the American Legion and the Ottawa Post of the V.F.W. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Calvin, Lloyd, George and Kenneth.
He is survived by his wife; two sisters, Cleo Porter of Kingsford and Luella Drummond of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River with the Rev. Norm Clisch, pastor, celebrating the Mass.
Organist Luella Ambach accompanied the St. Agnes Resurrection Choir.
Burial will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
Langenberg Funeral Home of Stambaugh is in charge of arrangements.
