PANHANDLE - (HC) - A resident of Panhandle since 1890, Walter Frank Simms, 94, died at 10 a.m. today at the home of a friend as he delivered some mail.
Simms was still active, and drove out to his farm almost every day; he was a farmer and rancher in the Cuyler Community, but had lived in town at 509 Euclid, for more than 20 years.
Funeral services are pending at Poston Funeral Home.
Survivors include one son, Minor of Panhandle, one grandson, and two great-grandchildren.

PANHANDLE, May 1 - Funeral rites in tribute to the memory of Walter Franklin Simms, 94, Panhandle farmer and rancher, will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Alvis Cooley officiating.
Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery under direction of Poston Funeral Home.
Mr. Simms died unexpectedly at 10 a.m. Monday of a heart attack. He was still active in farming and ranching and drove his own car.
He had lived in Panhandle since 1903. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and had served several terms on the Panhandle School Board, was a church steward and served on the board of trustees of the Methodist Church.
He was a regular fan of the Amarillo Gold Sox.
Surviving are a son, Minor Simms of Panhandle; four brothers, George of Panhandle, Reedy of Pickton, Dormer of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Minor of Laguna Beach, Calif.; and two great grandchildren, Glenna Simms and Stan Simms, all of Panhandle.

The pioneer Panhandle farmer-rancher died at 10 a.m. Tuesday of a heart attack suffered while he was getting ready to deliver a letter to an invalid woman.
Simms, who was still active in farming and ranching, was 94. Known as "Uncle Frank" to Panhandle residents, Simms was born Feb. 3, 1869, in Rockford, Ala. He came to Texas in 1886 and settled near Pickton in Hopkins County. He and Miss Minnie Pugh married on Jan. 25, 1891, in Pickton.
The Simms family moved to Panhandle in 1903, bringing all household goods, four horses, house lumber, plow tools and wagons by rail in an immigrant railroad car.
Mrs. Simms died March 25, 1946.
Simms was a member of the First Methodist Church and active in the Golden Age Fellowship. He served several terms on the Panhandle School Board, was a church steward, served on the board of trustees and was a member of the First Methodist Church building committee.
