Hazel Murphy Abernathy, age 82, of Murphy, NC passed away Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
She was a native of Cherokee County, NC and the daughter of the late Manco and Ida Elizabeth Sutton Murphy. Hazel was a homemaker and attended Wilscott Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her flower garden.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Tony Murphy; brother, Richard Murphy and sister, Anna Merle Hardin.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Reid and her husband, Louis of Murphy, NC; a brother, Frankie Murphy and his wife, Wanda of Murphy, NC; two grandchildren, Brian Reid and Erik Reid and two great-grandchildren, Emily Reid and Rachel Reid.
Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. Rev. Billy Rhodes and Rev. Dwayne Anders will officiate. Interment will at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Sunset Cemetery in Murphy, NC. Pallbearers will be Brian Reid, Erik Reid, Gene Messmer, George Van Buskirk, Ronnie Williamson and Tom Anderson.
