Thos. Sams, Indian,
Dies at Hennepin

Thos. Sams, aged Indian, died Saturday afternoon at his home one and a half miles southeast of Hennepin. While his exact age was not known it was believed to have been 108 or 110 years. Notwithstanding his great age, he got around like a much younger man, and was frequently seen in Davis, and was known by many of our citizens. He bore a good name and was well liked.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon and was attended by a large crowd. Rev. Abel Brown, Indian preacher, conducted the service, speaking in English and also in the Indian tongue. Burial was in the cemetery at Hennepin.

Mr. Sams was born in Mississippi but had lived in the Hennepin community a long time. He is survived by several sons and daughters who also live in that vicinity. His death was due to pneumonia and he was sick only about a week. His previous health had been good.
