Margaret Thorpe, 92, Monticello died early Friday morning in the Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C. She had been spending several months with her daughter, Lois Kress in Washington.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at the Mackey Funeral Home in Monticello. The Rev. Robert O. Williams of the Monticello Presbyterian church officiating. Burial was in Monticello Cemetery.
Mrs. Thorpe was born Sept. 27, 1867, near Clinton, a daughter of Peter and Charlotte Welch Widdersheim. She was married to Edward A. Thorpe, who died in 1943.
Besides Mrs. Kress, she leaves three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Miner and Mrs. Effie Keller both of Monticello; and Mrs. Nellie Whitehead of Decatur and two grandchildren.
Note: her husband, Edward Thorpe died Aug. 1935, not in 1943 as her obit stated.
