--She was a daughter of Cadesman Pope and his second wife Susan Atkinson. Ella was the 5th of their 7 children and the oldest daughter. She was born and raised on her parents' plantation. She was 10 years old when Sherman's Army came through Georgia and remembered the Yankees overrunning the plantation and taking whatever they chose.
--Ella attended Georgia Masonic Female College.
--She married Rev. J. Sidney Bryan on June 17, 1874 in Pike County, GA. They moved frequently as a result of her husband's profession of Methodist minister. They lived in Griffin, GA more than anywhere else, as Rev. Bryan was twice District Supt. of the area. Ella was the mother of 7 children.
--She suffered a stroke in 1919 and was paralyzed on one side during the last year of her life.
