BENNINGTON - Henry J. Green, 82, a resident of Bennington and a former resident of Arlington, died Nov. 20, 2009, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

Born in Bennington on May 19, 1927, he was the son of the late Clark H. and Muriel (Phillips) Green. He received his education in the Bennington schools and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps.

He married the former Mary Maroney at the St. Francis de Sales rectory in Bennington on May 23, 1948.

He was employed at the former Bijur Lubricating Co. for 38 years until his retirement in 1989.

He was an avid fan of both the New York Yankees baseball team and New York Giants football team. His favorite pastime was time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, of Bennington; a daughter, Kathleen M. Griffith, of North Bennington, a son, Stephen J. Green of Bennington; a son, Dennis Green of West Arlington; a daughter, Marie G. Morse of Winter Haven, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clark Green of Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, Thomas H. Green, who died Aug. 27, 2005, and by six brothers and sisters.

The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with a prayer, and at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
