Born April 3, 1926, in Peoria to Homer and Frances Ehrlein Ryan, he married Helen Newman. He later married Alma Veverka on Aug. 9, 1980, in Alexis. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Karen Wakeland of Peoria and Deborah Sloan of Galesburg; two sons, Michael of Peoria and Richard of Waverly, Iowa; four stepdaughters, Linda Fox of Las Vegas, Kathy Kuberski and Mary Pence, both of Alexis, and Pam Veverka of Galesburg; and two stepsons, John Veverka and Stephen Veverka, both of Honolulu. One brother preceded him in death.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Galesburg American Legion.
He worked for a telephone company. He then worked for the Rock Island Railroad, retiring in 1981. At his death, he was working for Railroad Traffic Co., repairing railroad signals.
Burial will be at LaSalle Cemetery in Chillicothe.
