Mike met his wife Kim Oathout in July of 2013. They married December 21, 2013.
Mike is survived by his wife Kim, his mother Helen Ryan, sister Deb Sloan, sister Karen (Danny) Wakeland, brother Rick Ryan, Kim's children, Joshua (Cindi) Oathout, Brittany (Ryan) Yancey, several nieces and nephews and 2 grandchildren.
After attending school, Mike began working for the Rock Island Railroad. He moved on to work with the Railroad Traffic Control. Also for 19 years Mike was employed by Mitsubishi. At Komatsu he operated a crane. Mike's working years ended at Wildlife Prairie Park where he was able to enjoy wildlife and the outdoors. He was a newlywed with Kim but he share his heart with the park. Mike worked hard at everything he did and he played even harder.
Mike loved anything to do with the outdoors. He was a genuine outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, wildlife, mudding, and ATV riding. He enjoyed showing off in his big diesel truck. He was an avid gardener complete with his own green houses. He was sometimes known as "tomato man". He had a reputation for his produce. Vegetables weren't the only thing he grew. He loved flowers as well.
Working and playing were only a small part of who Mike Ryan was. Mike enjoyed his church, Crossroads Baptist. He found fulfillment and joy serving in a quiet sort of way. He was happy to use his horticulture talents to beautify the church. Mike cared about others in his community. For a number of years he served at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist church, Washington Il serving in their food bank. He was a humble man who was grateful for the opportunity to serve the community and church.
