"Jennie had Smallpox" (in Dec. 1921).
"North of the house was a hill called the Huff Hill. In the winter they would sleigh ride down it. The sleighs would go more than a fourth of a mile. This was fun, not so much pulling the sleighs back up for the next ride. One day in the summer, Jennie and Golda decided to try coming down in a wagon. They didn't make the first bend and went rolling over and over, down the side of the road and sand knolls. They were bruised and scratched and never tried that again."
"Jennie loved to ride horses and was good at it. She and her sister, Golda, used to ride sideways without a saddle, both on the same horse, she facing one way, Golda the other. Down through the fields they would race. She was also a very good dancer and had many friends because of her pleasant smile and pleasing personality. She had lots of white hair until she was about 12 years of age, when it started to get dark and went curly. Up to this time you couldn't even put a wave in it."
"She had a very pleasing personality, was loads of fun. In our wrestling and fooling around, if she got the best of me all I had to do was tickle her and she would start laughing so I would then get the best of her."
"In the fall after the grain was thrashed, we would empty the old straw out of our bed ticks and fill them with fresh clean smelling straw and I can still see Jennie as she would light full length in the middle and laugh as though she were floating on a cloud."
