OBITUARY-THE TECUMSEH CHIEFTAIN

DEATH OF SMITH RHEA SHERMAN

Smith Rhea Sherman, formerly of Tecumseh, passed away suddenly at his home in Los Angeles, Cal., August 11, 1932. He was fifty-nine years of age last May 31. His Collapse was very sudden and unexpected, as he had complained but slightly and was about his daily duties to the very day of his passing away. The cause of death was attributed to a cerebral homorrhage, which took place after the deceased had returned from a visit with his eldest daughter, Elva. The hemorrhage was very extensive occuring at 2:00 o'clock, p.m. redering him unconcious and he remained in a coma until one hour of his death, which occured at 9:30 o'clock, the following morning. His daughters who were summond when he was stricken, remained at his bedside during the entire time of his collapse.
Smith R. Sherman was born in Tecumseh, May 31, 1873. He married Maud A. Lawson, January 27, 1898, and was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Elva Mae and Edith Gertrude Sherman. He was the last surviving son of Mr. and Mrs. Abram Sherman, his father being a soldier in the Civil War, serving in Company C, Fifteenth Ohio Infantry, and having died in Tecumseh March 26, 1913, and the death of his mother, Alice Sherman, was three years later, January 7, 1916.
Mr. Sherman is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Morrison of Long Beach and Mrs. Jefferies of Los Angeles, and two granddaughters, Betty Morrison and Eleanor Jefferies. A nephew survives, being Dean Ellsworth Sherman, son of Bertha Mae Sherman Ellsworth, who died June 13, 1906, in Tecumseh.
The deceased was laid to rest in Rosedale cemetery in Los Angeles beside his wife, who passed away in 1913.
