Thomas J Barnett known as "Tom"
Tom was born in Alvord Texas in 1886 to John and Harriet "Hattie" Hobson Barnett. Tom married Ruth E. Byrd Jan 4, 1906 at Crowell Texas. The couple lived in Crowell Texas until 1920 when they moved to Young County Texas. They moved to Electra Texas in 1925. Tom retired in 1951, as an oil field driller. He and Ruth had planned to move to California.
After the death of his 1st wife Ruth Byrd in 1951 he moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where he was in the home building business. It was in Kansas City Kansas where he met his 2nd wife Mary Katherine "Katie" Stump Smith who was a widow losing her husband in 1945. Tom and Katie were devoted members of the Open Door Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Tom had lived in Wyandotte County 22 years at the time of his death.
Tom and Katie were on the way to Texas to visit relatives when their car collided with a train at Chickasha Ok. Tom died at scene of the accident. Katie survived from the accident then died Dec. 11, 1973 from her injuries.
Tom is survived by a son Rev. H.W. Barnett, pastor or the Victoria Tabernacle in Kansas City, Kansas. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Johnnie Mae Burgess (Fred) Graham, Tex. (Estelle) Mrs. Ted Vassar, San Angelo, Tex. and (Mary Jo) Mrs. Herman Shaw, Los Altos, Calif., three step daughters, Mrs. Virginia Kovac, and Mrs. Leona Seifert both of Kansas City, Kansas, Mrs. Alberta Vincent, Olympia, Wash., and 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Services were held on Monday Oct. 21 at the Victoria Tabernacle in Kansas City, Kansas with burial in South Bend Cemetery in South Bend Texas.
