Rev. H.W. Barnett was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. He assumed the pastorship of Victoria Tabernacle from Rev. A.L.Chamber in Kansas City, Kansas in the late 1940s when it was located at 934 Scott. The flood of 1951 caused the church to have to relocate to a new location at 1500 Central Avenue in Kansas City, KS. The congregation built a new church on that site. Hershel pastored the church for 40 years along with his wife, Joy O. Barnett.

He was much beloved in his community, having been deeply involved with the city and school district for years. It has been told that the day of his funeral, many of the stores in downtown KC, KS closed their doors in his honor. The city named “Barnett St.” in his honor.

His children: Rev. Tommy Barnett, Phoenix, AZ and Vickie Cackler of Tongonoxie, KS.
