DOROTHY (HOPE) SHIREY

DOROTHY SHIREY, 97, of Cordova, formerly of Hayti, MO, passed away April 23, 2008. She was born June 17, 1910 in Tuscaloosa, AL, to the late James Edward and Mamie Sue McMurtray Baxley.
She was a 1928 graduate of Tuscaloosa, AL High School. She was the organist at First Baptist Church in Hayti for 48 years; and was well known in the community playing at many funerals and weddings. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was loved by everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
She leaves a son, William ‘Bill' Shirey and his wife Judy of Crestview FL; three daughters, Wanda Dean Shirey of Cordova, TN, Fay Shirey Neibel and her husband Wayne of Byhalia, MN and Kay Shirey Inman and her husband, Bill of Heber Springs,. AR; and a sister, Margie Williams and her husband Ray of Sanford, FL; three sisters-in-law, Flora Barnes of Tuscaloosa, AL, Gladys Baxley of Cullowhee, NC and Gladys Shirey of Hayti; ten grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and a host of other relatives a and many, many friends.
Pallbearers were Bo Shirey, Chris Inman, Joe Shirey, Joe Parkinson, Jeffrey Sevilla and Cameron Parkinson. Honorary pallbearers were Phil Bowen, BB.A. Cross, W. T. Davidson, Jr., Bob Inman, Leslie Knott, Jr., Dub Pate, Allen Taylor and Bob __rnage.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the First Baptist church in Hayti with Rev. Keith Inman and Rev. Richard Sevilla, Jr. officiating. Burial was held in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Hayti.
John W. German Funeral Home in Hayti was in charge of the services.
