Zigler, Mrs. Elizabeth. Mt. Pleasant, IA., Feb. 27. At ten o'clock this morning occurred the death of one of Henry county's oldest residents, Mrs. Elizabeth Zigler, at the home of her son, Mr. Jacob Zigler, about four miles from this city, with whom she has made her home since the death of her husband, John T. Zigler some eleven years ago. Death came as a result of a severe attack of pleuro-pneumonia. She had been seriously ill for several days. Mrs. Zigler had lived in Henry county for a little over twenty-seven years but had lived in this state for over fifty years, residing on a farm near Middletown for twenty-five years before moving to this county. She was born in Pennsylvania and was eighty-three years old.

Mrs. Zigler has been an ardent and enthusiastic member of the Methodist Episcopal Church since she was eighteen years old and was well known for her good works throughout the communities in which she had lived.

She leaves to survive her five daughters, Mrs. Ellen Frailey of Holstein, Ia., Mrs. Samantha Short of Henry County, Mrs. Flora Cuddeback of West Burlington, Mrs. Orlena Herrill of Pierce, Ia, and Mrs. Violetta Gabeline of Mt. Union, Ia., and two sons, Jacob T. Zigler with whom she has been taking her home, a few miles from Mt.Pleasant and Ed, who lives in the Southwest.

In the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Zigler, which occurred at the home of her son Jacob T. Zigler, four and a half miles northwest of Mt. Pleasant, on Monday, February 27, 1911, at 10 a.m., Southeast Iowa loses one of its oldest and most respected inhabitants. She had made her home with her son since the death of her husband, John T.

She was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, June 26, 1828, and was eighty-three years old.

At the age of eighteen she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in the membership of which she died. She was an earnest faithful Christian woman. Her religion was of the true sort, practical and helpful. She was a good neighbor ready to assist others in time of need. As wife and mother she filled well her station. The whole community feels her loss.

Twelve children, seven of whom remain, were born to her and her husband. Those surviving are her daughters: Mrs. Otto (Ellen) Fraleigh of Holstein, Iowa; Mrs. Ben (Samantha) Short of Henry County; Mrs. M.D. (Flora) Cuddeback of West Burlington; Mrs. Ephriam (Orlena) Herrill of Pierce, Iowa; Mrs. George (Violetta) Gabeline of Mt. Union, Iowa; and two sons, Jacob D. Zigler of near Mt. Pleasant. The other son, John Edward Ziegler, has been in the Southwest country for some twenty-five to thirty years and when last heard from, several years ago, he was in the contracting business in Arizona, but since that time he has not been in regular correspondence with the home folks, and it is not known just now where he is located. However, a diligent search has been started to locate him. Besides her sons and daughter the deceased leaves twenty three grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral services conducted by Frank E. Weston, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant were held at the home at 9:30 a.m. on March 1. The text was Philippians 1:23. Old friends and neighbors sang familiar hymns. The house was filled with a mourning company.

After the service the remains were taken to Middletown on train 178 where a brief service was held at the grave by Rev. Conrad Fatland. There besides the body of her husband, the body, weary with years, was laid down to sleep.
