Born September 22, 1895 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the 10th of 13 children to Mary Ellen Holt and Thomas Alston. Married Pearl Southwick in the Salt Lake Temple May 24, 1928. She died in 1994 after 66 years of marriage. Raised four children, ..., (Larry, deceased), ..., ..., ... 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren.
U.S. Army veteran of World War I, Life member Sons of Utah Pioneers and served as president, also chairman of Days of 47 committees. Participated in 1947 re-enactment of the pioneer crossing of the plains from Nauvoo, Illinois. Involved in many civic affairs. Field Director with the American National Red Cross for 30 years. Served a mission to Texas with his wife where he was president of Spanish branches in Brownsville and McAllen, Texas. Always accepted invitations to serve in the LDS Church and in the community. Graduated from Utah State University, loved to hunt, fish and be at his cabin.
Survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, all brothers and sisters, wife, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on January 25, 1999 at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive. Family and friends may call on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Mortuary and on Monday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park."
