The second wife of John Bitner ll.

Mrs. Josie Bitner, 93, longtime resident of Delta, died at the Kensler nursing home here last Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. She had been in failing health for the past year but was ill only three weeks. Mrs. Bitner had lived at Kensler's for the past four and one-half years. She was born on September 20, 1856 in Darke county, Ohio and was a daughter of William and Elizabeth Townsend. After her marriage to John Bitner on January 3, 1892, she came to Keokuk county, locating near Delta, and spent the remainder of her life here. Mr Bitner preceded her in death on June 12, 1934. Surviving are two sons, Elmer of DeSmet, South Dakota and Vernie of Cincinnati, Iowa; a step-son, Albert Bitner of Ottumwa, and a brother, Elmer Townsend of Vandalia, Ohio. There also are 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. One son, Floyd, died in infancy. The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at the Delta Methodist church, of which she was a member, with the Rev. J. A. Worrell in charge. Burial was in the Kensler cemetery, south of Delta.
