Obituary in The Daily Times in New Philadelphia, Ohio for Friday, Nov. 19, 1948 reads:

JACOB BARCUS

Jacob Barcus, 90, and resident of 9 Sherman street, Dennison, died at Twin City hospital at 3:15 p.m. yesterday of arteriosclerosis following an illness of one week.

He was born in Jefferson County on May 2, 1858, a son of William and Lucinda Barcus. A retired farmer, he had been a resident of Dennison for 20 years and was a member of the Methodist church.

He is survived by his wife, Georgiana Cox Barcus; three sons, Fred W. Barcus, Dennison, Frank A. Barcus, Butler, Pa., and Harry E. Barcus, Scio; three daughters, Mrs. Frank Gray, Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. W. E. Hite, Dennison, and Mrs. Forrest Ferrell, Dennison.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the R.K. Lindsey funeral home with the Rev. Charles Shaffter officiating. Burial will be made in the mausoleum in Union cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home.
