He d. of record Feb. 2, 1780 at Preston, Æ 68 [Preston VRs.] Like his wife, he has no extant gravestone but must have once had one from which his age at death was taken.

If Mary's gravestone still existed, her age would be inscribed as the Preston vital record states; that is, she died Æ 76, and the following would be added for explanation:
On the day Mary died she was 75 years old, and Ætatis suæ (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of her Age) 76.
