Born in White County, Tennessee. Son of Joseph Walling
and Kathrine Anderson Walling.
Joseph's father Elisha and family had left Maryland, and migrated to Missouri. Joseph and other family members and some brothers moved to the south, settling in White
County, Tenn. A large Walling family was living and moved into Sparta, Tenn. and another area close was later named Walling, Tenn. Caney Fork Creek, a large area of water was in Walling, Tenn. Around 1835-1836 migrating to Texas. First to Rusk County, later moving into Houston County, Daly Community.
Elisha was born in 1821-1823 in White County Tenn.
Some people say the A. in his name is Ancel. I have never seen it written in records as such.
At 17-20 he joined the Texas War for Independence.
He joined Company E, Texas Santa Fe Expedition.
**The Santa Fe Expedition was set up that troops would travel to New Mexico, believing that New Mexico was going to help them out with their war against Mexico, in their fight for independence, to become a separate state.
New Mexico turned on them and turned them over to the Mexican officials. They were taken prisoner on Oct. 5, 1841 and marched to Pueblo and later to Vera Cruz where they were imprisoned for over a year.
They were released on August 12, 1842. The citizens of the Daly Community told the story (that lasted for years), that Elisha had walked all the way from Vera Cruz to his home there.**
After his return and some years later he married Amanda Elizabeth Williams on Feb 3, 1857.
They settled down in the Daly Community and raised their family.
They had the following children;
1. Charles (Charlie) b. Nov 13, 1857 **my grand-grandfather m. Callie Fornia Ferrell.
2. James b. Feb 20,1859 (died young, he may be in an unmarked grave)
3. Jesse b. 1861 m. Sarah Parker
4. Susan b. Apr 26, 1862 (died young, may be in unmarked grave)
5. Lawson (Buddie) b. 1865 (I found him at age 15 on 1880 Census, Houston County, Texas, nothing after that)(he will be in an unmarked grave)
6. Polly b. Oct 16, 1867 m. Albert Price
7. Nancy C.. b. Dec 3 1869 m. Walker Ferrell
8. Elisha b. Aug 15, 1872 m. Emile Warren
9. Elizabeth "Lizzie" b. Aug 6, 1875 m. Will Burran
10. Hosea Mar 6, 1879 m. Mattie Brinkley, Hou. Co. Marriage Record, 3 Oct, 1900.
When some of his children were still small, Elisha and family along with his niece Sarah Jane Walling Cunningham
(dau of his brother James R) and her husband James "Jim"
Cunningham all moved to Erath Co., Stephenville, Texas.
Nothing was ever recorded why they moved there.

I guess it was that adventurous spirit in them.~~

Elisha died in 1890, Jim Cunningham died there as well. ***It was reported that Amanda moved to Terrell, Texas with a daughter and died there in 1902. Upon further investigation, she did not have a daughter that was in Terrell, Texas. I found a 1900 San Antonio, Bexar Co, Texas Census
from Southwestern Insane Asylum that showed AMANDA WALLING, a white female, age 66, widowed, born in Alabama. (fits her age, Etc) could this possibly be her? I found a death record of Mrs Amanda Walling, Sept 1905, Bexar Co, Texas. Probably same lady.
Could this have been her as well? I know we as family members would not want this to be her, but who really knows for sure.
I have never been able to locate her.
I ran across a record that put Sarah Jane Walling Cunningham in Cherokee Co, after 1900. She was brought back to Houston County for burial at Livelyville Cemetery.
Was unable to locate a New Waverly Cemetery, but these records are written by a granddaughter of Elisha and Amanda, and a grandson of James R., Elisha's brother. Could not find Jim, Texas 1900 Census records.
