Obit.—LITTLE ROCK—The Rev. Bill J. Holcomb, 64, of Route 11, Sulphur Springs Road near Pine Bluff, a retired Baptist minister, died Saturday at Baptist Medical Center at Little Rock.
Born February 23, 1936, at Jonesboro, he was the son of Mrs. Olivia Drope Holcomb of Jonesboro and the late James Joseph Holcomb.
Holcomb, pastured at several Arkansas churches including Eight Mile Baptist and Village Baptist churches, both at Paragould, Rowe’s Chapel Baptist and New Hope Baptist church, both at Caraway, Crossroads Baptist Church at Dell (Mississippi County), Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church at West Memphis, Mountain Pine Baptist Church at Hot Springs and Caraway Baptist Church at Caraway, from which he retired in 1982.
He was also founder of Barring Cross Baptist Church at Flint, Michigan.
Reared and educated in Greene County, he was a graduate of Southern Baptist College at Walnut Ridge.
He served in the Navy in World War II. After his naval career, he returned to Northeast Arkansas where he farmed. He entered into the ministry in 1950 at Paragould.
A member of Pleasant Baptist Church near Pine Bluff, he was a Mason and a member of Raymick Hinting Club.
Other survivors include his wife, Melba Greer Holcomb, whom he married in 1943, at Paragould; five sons, Bill W. Holcomb, Mike Holcomb, Tommy Holcomb, Terry Holcomb and Danny Holcomb, all of Pine Bluff; four brothers, the Rev. Jesse D. Holcomb of Benton, the Rev. Charles J. Holcomb of Lonsdale, the Rev. James Holcomb of Monticello, and the Rev. Jerry G. Holcomb of Walcott (Greene County) two sisters, Anna Holcomb Robertson of Koshkonong, Missouri and Bonnie Holcomb Thornton of Paragould; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Watson Chapel Baptist Church at Pine Bluff with the Revs. Henry Applegate and bill Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Fitzhugh Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son Mortuary.
The family will be at the Holcomb home in the Sulphur Springs community.
Memorials may be made to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Route 7, Box 584 B. Pine Bluff.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Reed, Garland Alexander, Jim Hughes, Charles Gibbs, Kenneth Monk, J. W. Monk, V. L. Fergusson and W. H. Fergusson.
