Died age 88 years 8 months 20 daysThe best compilation of genealogical data & sources I've found on Joseph Severns is the "Timeline Major Joseph Severns 1759-1848", 8 pages, compiled by Alice Severns, last updated 8-Sep-2003, posted to Ancestry.com by user AliceAnnSeverns on 1-Sep-2015. Contributors include J. Severns, Laura Nasiatka, I Brunet, P Skeels, Virginia Dexter, P Cooper, T Severns, Virginia Mercer & Betty Ralph and others. The document includes a detailed wealth of primary and secondary sources, with analysis of where the evidence leads, and some frank uncertainties as to which records apply and his family relations.

Per the bio of Joseph's son James in the 1881 "History of Knox County" (N. N. Hill Jr., 1881), Joseph "was married twice and was the father of twenty-two children, all of whom are now deceased, except James, by his first marriage, ... and two sons and one daughter by his second wife."

This Joseph Severns is often confused with his first cousin, Joseph Severns 1768-1857, whose wife was also named Mary and was apparently his cousin, a sister of Joseph Severns 1759-1848 (see memorial 211409013).
