Mrs. Gertrude Lawson Hughes, 84, of 1910 Logan Ave., died at 3:30 a.m. today at Middletown Regional Hospital where she had been a patient several times over the past six months.
A native of Wolfe County, Ky., Mrs. Hughes lived here for 63 years. She worked as a machine operator in the scrap department for the P. Lorillard Co. here. She was a member of Breiel Boulevard First Church of God.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Reese, in 1972, and a son, Roger, in 1977.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lois Tankersley of Middletown and Mrs. Edris Hawthorne of St. Louis, Mo.; a son, William Dale Hughes of Middletown; her stepmother, Mrs. Kate Lawson of Florida; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Breiel Boulevard First Church of God with the Revs. Claude Robold and Herschel Caudill officiating. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Joseph R. Baker Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and at the church after 9:30 a.m. Thursday
