Abby Elizabeth Cleaveland was born in Newbury, Mass. 12-16-1832, the daughter of Nehemiah Cleaveland a noted educator and Abigail Pickard (4-15-1794 - 7-2-1836) who was born in Ipswich, Mass.. Abby was active in teaching throughout her life and she died in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12/1/1907 - no record of her marrying. She had (3) brothers who survived to adulthood, Dr. George Nehemiah Cleaveland, Dr. Joseph Manning Cleaveland, and Henry William Cleaveland an architect, and yet she had (3) sisters that did not survive infancy, Mary Lord, born 5/28/1835 and died 9/30/1836 and two twins born July 15, 1829 and that died within days of each other on 7/17 and 7/20/1829.
