Effie Perschbacher Newell
Mrs. Effie Mae PERSCHBACHER NEWELL, 84, 196 Main street, died at 2 a.m. today in Woodlawn hospital, where she had been a patient since being injured in a fall April 13. She had been in failing health two years.
For 18 years, Mrs. Newell operated a grocery at her home. She closed the business in 1954. Except for several years in Logansport, she had resided all her life in Rochester and vicinity.
Mrs. Newell was born in Tiosa July 13, 1878, the daughter of Luther and Mary Katherine CHURCHILL WADE. Her first marriage was in Rochester on Oct. 2, 1901, to Fred B. PERSCHBACHER, who died Dec. 15, 1939. She was married July 10, 1955 in Rochester to Manford NEWELL, who survives.
A member of the St. John Lutheran church here, Mrs. Newell belonged to the Friendship class of that church and to the Women's Benefit association.
Surviving with the husband are a daughter, Mrs. Anna Katherine WINE, Detroit; a son, Fred M. PERSCHBACHER, Rochester; a step-son, Richard R. NEWELL, Rochester; two step-daughters, Mrs. Eli (Barbara) WYNN, Rochester, and Mrs. Richard (Nancy) DUZENBERY, Akron; two grandchildren, and 11 step-children.
Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. R. J. MUELLER officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery here. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday.
