Alverta A. Semke, daughter of Adam and Bertha Hofmeister, was born at Beverly, Ill., Oct. 24, 1903 and departed this life at the Community hospital in Beloit,Kansas, Feb. 7, 1943, at the age of 39 years, 3 months and 13 days.
She was united in marriage to Thurman Semke, Jan. 2, 1924. To this union three daughters were born: Maxine Luetta, Wilma Florence and Lola Marjorie.
She was a member of the Friends Church at Northbranch, Kansas, but took an active part in services of the United Brethren church at Mankato, which was near her home, until ill health interfered a few month ago.
Besides her husband and daughters she leaves to mourn, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Hofmeister, five sisters, Alta and Bessie Trout of Superior, Nebr., Myrtle Fengel of Roseville, Ill., Zelma Jackson of Liberty, Ill., Susie Mixer, Avon, Ill., one brother Clifford Hofmeister, Avon, Ill., a cousin, Mrs. Esther Means, of Quincy Ill., who grew up with members of the family after her mother's death. There are 23 nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the United Brethren Church in Mankato with the Rev. Josiah Murphy. The quartet from the Northbranch church furnished music. Interment was made in the Mt. Hope cemetery at Mankato.
