Funeral Services Will Be Held Here On Saturday
ILL SHORT TIME

Joseph Felder, one of Guttenberg's oldest citizens and a resident of the community for about 60 years, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday following a brief illness. He was 88 years and nine months old.

Funeral services for Mr. Felder will be held Saturday morning from the Steger funeral home to St. Mary's church where the rites will be conducted by Rev. Louis Grunewald.

Mr. Felder was born January 13, 1864, in Grant county, Wisconsin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Felder. On April 14, 1891, he married Anna Burr.

During the sixty years he had lived here, Mr. Felder spent his working years as a button cutter.

Mr. Felder is survived by five sons and three daughters, Albert Felder, Edward Felder, Joseph Felder, Jr., and Mrs. Lewis Carrier of Guttenberg, Sylvester Felder of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; Clarence Felder of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Mrs. Ben Markus of Cascade, and Mrs. Frank Augustine of Dubuque.

Also surviving are two brothers, Peter Felder of Glen Haven, Wisconsin, and William Felder of Bloomington, Wisconsin; 27 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and five sisters.

Joseph and Anna Burr Felder Family

Joseph Felder was born Jan. 13, 1864 in Glen Haven, Wis., and died Feb. 13, 1952 in Dubuque. He was the son of Theodore Felder, who was born Feb. 19, 1823 in Hopporachus, Germany, and died December 17, 1886 in Guttenberg and Julia Schaller-Heitman Felder who was born July 21, 1841 in Cincinnati, Ohio; was orphaned and married first to Gerhardt Heitman. Julia and Gerhardt had two sons, Henry and August. August was legally adopted by Joseph and Mary Huene after his father drowned in the Mississippi River at Guttenberg in 1861. Julia subsequently married Theodore Felder who had come to the U.S. in 1856. They had 10 children: Joseph, Anna Kirschbaum, John, Mary Hampton, Frank, Susie Stoeffler, Peter, Philomena Westemeyer, William and Matilda "Tillie." Julia died July 30, 1907, also in Guttenberg.

Anna Burr Felder was born June 3, 1870 and died March 27, 1932. She was the daughter of Peter Burr and Theresa Bendar Burr. Her father, Peter Burr, came to America by way of New Orleans, with two of his brothers, Mathias and William Burr. Peter was born in Luxembourgh, Europe, in 1829 and died in Guttenberg in 1900. Peter married Theresa Bendar who was born in 1834 in Austria of Bohemian descent and died in 1892 in Guttenberg. The Bendars were belived to have lived in Ohio. Anna Burr had the following brothers and sisters: Mathias, Peter, Elizabeth Stamm, Frances, Frank, Emma Meyer, Mary Wolter and it is believed two children, Joseph and Minnie died as infants.

Joseph Felder and Anna Burr married and lived in Guttenberg. Joseph was a brick-layer and helped to construct several of the old brick homes in Guttenberg. They were the parents of Albert (deceased), Clarence (deceased), Edward (deceased), Milda Carrier, Clara Markus, Sylvester (retired in Sun City Center, Fla.), Frances Augustine, and Joseph Jr. (deceased).

Joseph and Anna were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg and are buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery there.
