Franz Anton "Anthony" Grobbel was born in Germany to parents, Rottger and Maria Catharina (Eickhoff gt. Spott) Grobbel. His siblings include Joannes Francis Joseph, Johannes Caspar Anton, Joannes (John), Josephina, Maria Anna, and Daniel. Anthony, along with his two brothers, John and Daniel, emigrated to America. Anthony settled in Warren Township, Macomb County, Michigan. His brother John also moved to Warren Township, while Daniel settled in Detroit.

Anthony married Elizabeth Goebel and their children include Elizabeth who married Jacob Schluad, Elizabeth, who died young, Mary Elizabeth "Mary Ann" who married Frank Lange, Catherine who married Bernard Schnoblen, Marie Therese, Anthony John who married Mary Minick, Bernard John who married Catherine Ohlert, Frances Mathilda who married Anthony Minick and John Grobbel.

The 1880 US Federal Census for Warren, Macomb County, Michigan shows Anthony and Elizabeth living with children, Catherine, age 19, Anthony, age 14, Bernard, age 12, Francis, age 10 and Joseph, age 6. This census states Anthony along with both his parents were born in Prussia.
