He attended Ottumwa H.S., graduated from Olivet Nazarene H.S. and attended Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, Il.
He married Peggy Gundy Oct 20, 1942, near Carlock, Il. He was an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene. He pastored churches in St. Coix Falls, Wi, Dubuque, Burington Flint Hills, Farmington, Ames, Centerville and Fairfield, La until 1966 when he moved to OKC to pastor Penn Ave Church of the Nazarene. He became a full-time evangelist in 1972, holding revivals across the U.S. He retired in 1989. He served as campground manager on the IA, Dist. for 13 years. He held many boys and girls camps across the denomination where thousands of children came to know him as "Uncle Bob."
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughters, Sharron Main, Fairfield, Ia, and Linda DeGroot, Yukon; son Ken Swanson, Yukon; 9 grandchildren, Randall, Jonathon and Jerod Main, Jennifer Howard, Jason and Malinda DeGroot, and Sherry, Daniel and Rachel Swanson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
