John Oscar Woodrum, age 91 of Pulaski passed away Thursday morning, October 29, 2009. Born June 18, 1918 in West Virginia he was the son of the late Davis Erastus Woodrum & Myrtle Marie Churchfield Woodrum. His wife; Alice Elgene Woodrum, daughter; Nora Lee Oliver, sister; Catherine Boor and brother; Leonard "Hickory" Woodrum also preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WW II. He served in the battle of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland & Central Europe. He received the Meritorious Unit Award, European Service Ribbon & Good Conduct Medal. He later worked as a carpenter for Vest & Wright Construction with over 20 years of service. He is survived by his Children: Lois Jean Kilgore & husband, Stephen Kilgore of Radford; Clara Marie Tolbert & husband, Freddie Tolbert of Dublin; Roberta "Tammy" Dixon & husband, Larry Dixon of Dublin; John & Darlene Woodrum, Jr. of Pulaski; Leonard Garrett Woodrum & Brenda Woodrum of Pulaski; David Woodrum and Ashley of Pulaski; Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sisters: Mary Jane Epperly of Dublin; Robin "Woody" Woodrum of Md., Shirley "Pete" Woodrum of Radford; Reba Emerson of Wisconsin, Carol Kirby of Alexandria; Leo "Heg" Woodrum of Radford and very special friend & companion Mae Barnett of Pulaski. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Bower Funeral Home, Chapel — Pulaski with the Rev. David Woodrum officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin where the V.F.W. Post #1184 will conduct full military honors. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the Bower Funeral Home, Pulaski.
