Son of John & Mary (Sheridan) McGinley he married Margaret Ellen Thalken on 31 Jan 1901 in Ogallala Nebraska. They had seven children: John Bernard, Gerald James, George Terrance, Arthur Charles, Theodore William, Jess Joseph and Donald Francis. For over 60 years George Sr. was a vital force in the cattle growth in Nebraska. He helped set up four of his "boys" with ranches in Western Nebraska and the other two were lawyers practicing in Ogallala Nebraska. He also was partner in the feedlot at Brule Nebraska and after the Kingsley Dam was built, 2000 acres of McGinley's land lay beneath Lake McConaughy.

Summary
George McGinley, Sr., 83, prominent pioneer rancher at Keystone and Ogallala, died Tuesday afternoon at his home in Ogallala. He had been in failing health for the past several months.
Mr. McGinley was born in the eastern part of the state but came to Western Nebraska when a young man. He was a member of the Catholic Church and the Nebraska Stock Growers Assoc.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; six sons, John of Lisco and Alliance, Gerald of Ogallala, Ted of Valentine, Jeff (sic Jess) of Gordon, Don of Ogallala and George Jr. of Keystone; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, from the Ogallala Catholic Church, burial in the Ogallala Cemetery.
