Evalena came to Flatwillow, Montana with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hawkins, in 1911. Having completed the elementary grades in the Flatwillow school, she graduated from the Houston, Minnesota High School in 1918. After graduation she returned to Montana and taught school for two years.
On December 2, 1920, she was married to William Johnke in Roundup, Montana. For six years they lived in Great Falls. Returning to Flatwillow they remained here until the spring of 1938 and then moved to Fairfield, Montana.
