Mary Elizabeth Heaps was born 5 July 1854 in Satin Cross, Yorkshire, England. She arrived in Utah in 1863, where she married William Alvey (1847-1920). After William died in 1920, she married George Black, Jr. (1854-1940) in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, USA. She died 21 May 1931 in Manti, Sanpete, Utah, USA, and was buried in the Manti City Cemetery 23 May 1931.
