lifelong friendships. Upon graduation, she moved to San Bernardino, CA where she taught at Arrowhead Junior HIgh. In 1961 married William Alltop and moved to Ridgecrest, CA. She taught English, history and French at Murray Junior HIgh School for two years, before leaving her job to raise her two children. In 1981 Helen began her civil service career as the Educational Services Officer at the Personnel Support Activity Detachment, China Lake, CA. In 1985 she remarried and transferred to Naval Weapons Center as a Cost Accountant where she worked until her retirement in 1999.
Helen was actively involved in her children's sports, activities and schools, often working in their classrooms. Volunteering at Richmond Elementary led to becoming an instructional Aid, which then led to her actually teaching 6th grade English and history for the teacher; the best and toughest English teacher most students would ever have. She was like a second mother to so many in the neighborhood.
In retirement, Helen loved spending time with her children and seven grandchildren. Outside of family, her favorite activities were reading, napping, doing crosswords, playing bridge, socializing with friends and her dog. She was an active member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Commissioned Officers Mess at China Lake and held several positions on its Board of Directors over the years. She also volunteered at the Thrift Shop and counted money after services at the United Methodist Church.
Helen is survived by her husband, daughter and son, seven grandchildren, and brother.
Funeral services were held at United Methodist Church.
