David enlisted in the Marines 25 December 1967, at a recruting office in Los Angeles, CA.
Upon arriving in Vietnam 28 February 1968, he was assigned to H&s Company, 3rd Shore Party Battalion, 3rd Marine Division.
David died when he was a passenger on board a CH46D helicopter enroute to Khe Sanh Airfield, on a recovery mission when the helicopter was downed by heavy hostile automatic weapons fire and exploded on impact with the ground, about 12 kilometers west southwest of Khe Sanh Airfield.
David served his country for two years.
Survived by his wife; Carol L Balades and two sons; David E and Daniel R Balades and his parents; Marcelino and Aurora Balades all of Oxnard,CA.
