Willis Roscoe Jones, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones was born near Rocky
Mount, Miller County, Missouri January 6, 1884, died at Independence, Kansas
July 18, 1918, age 34 years, 6 months and 12 days. He is survived by his
father, mother, five brothers and two sisters, one sister having died in
infancy. Those living are Roy of Hyannis, Nebraska, Clarence and Nellie of
Kansas City, Mo., Ross at Camp Dodge, Iowa, Lillian, Frank and Lyman who are yet
at home. All the children were present but Ross who was not granted leave from
camp.

At the age of 22 he began work with the Mo. Pac. R.R. Co. at Independence,
Kansas, which position he held until in May 1917 when he came home and spent
most of the year with his family. In the meantime he had traveled extensively,
visiting many places of interest. After a very pleasant and much needed
vacation he returned to Independence choosing a position with the Prairie Oil &
Gas Co. working in Kansas and Oklahoma in whose employ he was at the time of his
illness. His death occurred at the West Side Hospital of Independence.

He was a member of the Odd Fellow, Rebekah and Moose lodge, whose members held
him in high esteem. During his long residence in Independence he made many
friends who commented on his clean life and clean habits. Funeral services were
conducted by Bro. Bonham of Eldon, Mo.
