Funeral services for Flora Mary Pennel, 97, of Chickasha are being held at 10 am, on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Hatfield officiating.

Flora Mary Pennel was born February 6, 1912, in Canton, Oklahoma the daughter of J. Claude and Theodoshia (Adams) Bennett. She died Tuesday, October 6, 2009, in Chickasha. She grew up around Canton, Oklahoma and she attended Huck Mac School.

Flora married the love of her life, Lewis Raymond Pennel on December 22, 1935, in Canton, Oklahoma. They had 48 wonderful years together, before he preceded her in death in 1983. She worked with her in-laws in their self service laundry until she and Lewis moved to Enid in 1951. She worked for Linen Supply Services for 25 years before her retirement in 1977. She came to Chickasha in 1991 to be near her son.

She was a member of the Grand Assembly of God Church where she attended faithfully until her health prevented her from attending. Flora was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a hard worker and was devoted to every task she took on. She loved her family and friends, and she cherished every day she had with them.

Flora was preceded in death by both parents; husband, Lewis Pennel; three brothers: Dwight, Sayle and Wayne Bennett; one sister, Thelma Day; and one grandchild, Terry Emerson. She is survived by her children: Bettie and Ivan Emerson, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Robert (Sonny) and Glenda Pennel, of Chickasha; one brother, Maurice Bennett, of Canton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the nurses and home health aides with Lifeline Hospice and Dr. Hess and his staff for their wonderful care, as well as a special thank you to Pam Caveny who cared for Flora over the past 6 years, and to her daughter-in-law, Glenda Pennel, who went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure Flora had the best possible care. Interment will follow at 3 pm in the Munice Cemetery, near Canton, Oklahoma under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. Published in The Chickasha Express Star from 10/8/2009 - 10/12/2009
